TrueLane® By The Hartford^ is a smartphone app that recognizes and rewards your safe driving habits. You’ll receive an immediate discount of up to 12% just for signing up. Participation is easy – download the TrueLane app and start driving. Based on how well you drive, you could earn a discount of up to 25% when you renew. The TrueLane app provides tips to maximize your renewal discount while making our roads safer for everyone.
 

How It Works

  1. Get a quote and sign up: Purchase a policy that includes TrueLane and receive up to a 12% discount.
  2. Download the TrueLane app: You’ll receive a text with the link to download the free app for either Apple IOS or Android.
  3. Complete the activation process: Register the app by filling in your information and enabling a few permissions, then take your first drive.
  4. Enjoy the ride: Remember to take your smartphone with you each time you drive. The TrueLane app runs automatically in the background to help you stay focused on driving.
  5. Renew: You can save up to 25% when you renew based on the safe driving habits you demonstrate.

Frequently Asked Questions About TrueLane

To sign up for discounts from the TrueLane program, you must:
 
  • Be a licensed driver listed on The Hartford’s auto insurance policy
  • Have a valid email address
  • Have a compatible smartphone with sufficient coverage, permission services and a data plan
  • Agree to receive text messages about the TrueLane program
Even though not everyone on your policy needs to sign up, the more eligible drivers that participate, the greater the potential discount.
You can save up to 12% for participating and up to 25% when you renew. The renewal discount is based on your driving habits. You’re also free to stop using the TrueLane app at any time, but you will no longer receive a discount.
Data is collected from your phone related to braking, acceleration, cornering, speed and phone distraction events.
